Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to know whether my motherboard that came with HP 17-bs008ca laptop will be able to support M.2 NVMe or does the M.2 connection only support SATA?

No, they use different protocols. Some controllers may have both but your machine is a bit old.

Its specs

Page 3 of the manual says it can have dual storage option with M.2 SATA SSD + 2.5" SATA HDD or single storage M.2 SATA SSD's.

Thanks Banhien for your quick response. I guess it can be indirectly inferred based on the manual that NVMe unfortunately is not supported by this laptop's motherboard. I'd appreciate if this can be confirmed.

I read your PM, sorry I normally reply posts. For your question about capacity, yes in theory the number is high but practically the limit is the thickness of physical drives.

Same for M.2 drives, at this stage I believe they can squeeze 2TB on single sided SSD.

I think you misunderstood me. The manual you posted is very specific with hard drive sizes (e.g., 500gb, 1tb, 2tb) even though it's possible to install hard drives with sizes not mentioned in the manual such as 4tb or 8tb for example (as long as they're 2.5" and either 7 mm/9.5 mm thickness).

My question isn't concerning drive storage sizes correlated to physical size of the drive.

My question is that since the manual exclusively lists specific hard drive sizes such as 1tb, 2tb despite the laptop's capability to support other drives not listed in the manual, then is it therefore also possible that the laptop is capable of supporting NVMe M.2 SSD despite the manual only mentioning M.2 SATA?
