HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Two days ago while I was gaming my laptop crashed while gaming. When trying to reboot it I got error code 0xc000000e. Since I had a second drive installed, I installed and booted Windows from there in orded to access my computer and check the issue. I have discovered that neither the BIOS nor Windows recognize the laptop's original ssd anymore, only the one I installed later. Is it a hardware or software issue? And what could I do to fix it?

@VasilisGk, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop suddenly stops recognizing the original NVMe SSD, especially after a crash. Let's walk through some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Power Reset the Laptop

Sometimes, residual power can cause hardware detection issues.

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and boot into BIOS (press Esc or F10 repeatedly at startup).

Check if the SSD appears in the BIOS.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Enter BIOS Setup (F10 at startup).
  • Go to Storage > Device Configuration.
  • Look for the NVMe SSD. If it's not listed, it may indicate a hardware issue.

Also, ensure Secure Boot is disabled and Legacy Support is enabled (temporarily) to rule out detection issues.

Reseat the NVMe SSD

If you're comfortable opening the laptop:

  • Power off and unplug the laptop.
  • Remove the back cover (refer to the Maintenance and Service Guide for HP Pavilion 15-ec2000 series).
  • Locate the NVMe SSD and carefully remove and reinsert it.
  • Reassemble and check BIOS again.

Test the SSD in Another System (if available)

If you have access to another laptop or a USB-to-NVMe adapter, test the SSD externally. If it's not detected there either, the SSD may have failed.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Storage Test.

If the SSD is not detected in BIOS or by external tools, it's likely a hardware failure. In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
