HP ENVY 17-1010el Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear Community, I had recently changed the hard disk of my hp envy 17 1010el because of problems at the starting.

after that i have download  windows 10 on it, everything went well except for 2 things:

1 - black screen as soon as i update the video driver (Ati mobility radeon HD5850).

2- error 502 (reset CMOS - checksum CMOS not valid) when pc is starting

to solve the second issue i have to update BIOS (for the first I still don't now if BIOS updating will help, but I think so).

To update BIOS I searched on HP web site but since my laptop is older then 10 years it's not available. I've tried to solve the problem using the CHAT but it's impossible.

Does Anybody know how can I find it? Many thanks for your help.

Hi:

I can't find any specs on your notebook, but similar Envy 17-1xxx models have the Intel 1st Gen core processors.

If your notebook has a first gen Intel core processor, here are the info and exe file links to the last BIOS update HP released for your notebook:

F.1D:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52624.html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52624.exe

WARNING:  The BIOS file was written to be run on Windows 7 only.

I have no idea what will happen if you try to update the BIOS when running an unsupported operating system.

If you can't reinstall W7 to update the BIOS, you may run the risk of completely destroying your notebook.

Hi, many thanks for your reply.

the specs of my notebook are:

processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q720 @ 1.60 GHz

Bios F.1D dated 4th July 2011

I don't know if the processor is a 1st gen one.

Online windows 7 is no longer available but in the pc's box I've just found 3 dvd:

- 2 disks "Windows 7 recovery Media for windows 7 products"

- 1 disk "Application and Driver Recovery DVD -contains software and drivers already installed. For software reinstallation and repair only"

I may try to reinstall windows 7 with the first two disks and use the third one for the drivers? It might update even the BIOS?

After having installed windows 7 and updated everything, I can update windows and reinstall windows 10 again or it might cause problem for the BIOS?

Many thanks for your help!!

You're very welcome.

You already have the latest BIOS HP released...F.1D.

So, the BIOS is not going to update.

Hello, Thank you! so you suggest not to reinstall Windows 7 and not update the BIOS? But how can i solve the problem 502 (where they tell me i shall reinstell BIOS because It Is compromise)?

Even for the video board driver i don't know how to solve the problem...

Many thanks

You're very welcome.

Since your notebook is not supported for Windows 10 there is no W10 graphics driver--only windows 7.

As your notebook already has BIOS version F.1D installed, that is the latest version, so the one I gave you is the same.

Now if you think you need to reinstall F.1D because the currently installed version is corrupt, then I guess you can install W7 and then reflash the BIOS.

You can also confirm if the graphics works fine on W7 with the HP Windows 7 drivers.

You may want to consider leaving the notebook on Windows 7, because I do not believe that you will ever get the graphics to work on Windows 10.

Your notebook's Intel i7-720QM processor is a 1st gen core processor.

Many thanks for your answers. I'll install again Windows 7 to see if i solve the BIOS problem. So i can even check if drivers work with Windows 7.

In any case i already installed Windows 10 a few Years ago and everything worked properly...only when i installed It recently i am having problems, i don't know why It happened.

Many thanks again
