HP Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer does not turn on at all without being plugged in first and when I unplug it, it immediately shuts off. Based on this problem, I think I just need a new battery becuase the computer works fine when it is plugged in. Maybe somebody can confirm this for me. Also, I need help finding the exact battery for my computer. It is a removable battery at the top of the laptop. My model number is 15-ay014dx.

Hello @Nate15,

You can confirm the condition of your battery using the HP UEFI Diagnostics:

  1. Repeatedly press Esc upon startup
  2. Select F2 (System Diagnostics)
  3. Select the desired language
  4. Navigate to component tests
  5. Select Battery

Note that the above steps may vary depending on the configuration and some tests may not be available.

You can also run the HP Battery Check in HP Support Assistant. Once the test finishes, select Show Advanced Information and then send us a screenshot.

Let us know how it all goes.

Kind regards,

Eddy

Hello @EddyK,

Thank you for responding. I tried installing the UEFI diagnostics but when it installed, I could not find the file so I just switched to the HP Support Assistant. hp support.JPG

This is the screenshot after I ran the battery check. It gave me a link after the test  to search for replacement batteries so I put in the serial number and one battery came up but it said in parentheses "not the regular lithium battery." I just got confused because I know my battery is lithium-ion. I just want to make sure I get the right battery. Maybe you can let me know what you think from the picture.

Best,

Nate
