HP Pavilion dv6-6100 Entertainment Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello everyone, I need help in upgrading the wifi card on my 2 old laptops.

One is Hp pavilion dv6-6154tx for which i am looking for a dual band card with bluetooth also as the card already installed has both wireless and bluetooth functionality. I went through the maintainence and service guide but im confused between the whitelisted wifi cards as not much information is available for them.

The other one is Compaq Presario CQ60-209tu for which i am looking for a card with N capabilities or better as the one installed is only b/g. Again i went through the guide but couldnt find as this one is really old laptop.

Now i know that i need cards on which hp part number is mentioned otherwise they wont work.

So any help on this would be really appreciated.

Thank you

For the dv6:

On the cq60 the Manual list an 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi Link 5100 but does not give a part number.

This would be it.

https://www.amazon.com/480985-001-HP-wireless-network-802-11a/dp/B01BXG3FNI

This is an N card and will work in the 5 ghz band so is the "best" available.

what cards do you have now? You correctly have figured out both these laptops come from the whitelist era and you can only install wi-fi cards listed in the Manual and it must be a version of that type of card which has the correct HP Part number assigned. USB wireless dongles are an option and will allow you to have 802.11ac operation which is otherwise impossible on those machines.

Post back if you want me to look at both Manuals and tell you the "best" albeit obsolete card you can install in each and link you to a place to buy them.

hi thanks for the reply, i already know about the wireless dongle as an option but i like it more if everything is more internal than external...hehehe... im considering the usb dongle as the last resort.

hp dv6-6154tx card- Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter half mini card with bluetooth functionality. Hp part number is 630705-001

compaq cq60-209tu card- Qualcomm Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g. Hp part number 459339-002

hi thanks for listing but i have a question,

the intel centrino that you listed for dv6 is only single band as far as i could figure out. It has bluetooth functionality that i checked but im looking for a dual band card for dv6.

For the other one i place order from here

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-512AN-MMW-5100-WLAN-WIFI-Wireless-Network-Card-480985-001/162051751397?h...

as the amazon seller was not shipping to my country. But thanks for that.

I simply gave you the best available. If it is not dual band then there is no dual band that will pass the whitelist.

I just found out a modded bios for both the laptops which removes the whitelist...Hahaha...So ill just upgrade to AC card now.

Nonetheless thank you four help man.

Those modded HP BIOS are known to have a rootkit in them but good luck.
