Hi,

Can you provide the exact model or product number (not serial) for further help. Here is how to find it:

Hi Ray,

The product code you gave refers to EIPI3AV the 17t-j100 series, however the model number to 15-j125tx

I assume you have the 17-j100 as the 15 j100 series does not have an internal drive.

Basically, you can purchase any 9.5mm internal SATA optical drive. The front part (bezel) pops off and you can insert on the new drive.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=9.5mm+internal+dvd&_sacat=0

The actual part number for the drive is 729727-001

On page 46 of the service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive:

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks David -- somewhat confused - the device mgr states the cd drive is SCSI - will the SATA interface connect and function? Or is my info not correct?

HP Recommended

It is a SATA interface. HP has not made a laptop with SCSI connections in almost 25 years. SATA often detects as SCSI in device manager. It's normal.
