I am trying to connect a NVMe M. 2 ssd externally to my HP 255 G8 laptop but it is not recognised. How can I check to see if the M. 2 slot and the NVMe protocol is recognised?
. I have accessed the UEFI data but cannot find any reference.
Regards
Brian

Hi:
Did you initialize the disk?
Initialize new disks | Microsoft Learn
If your notebook has an AMD Ryzen processor, the M.2 slot supports NVMe SSD as indicated in chapter 1 of the service manual:

Hello again Paul
This reply may be a duplicate.
Yes I did manage to get the disk initialised thanks the next step is to clone the original onto the new one,
for this task I‘ve chosen to use clonezilla as it‘s free, as I‘ve not done this before I need to get my head around the correct procedure for cloning my dual boot system onto this new ssd before I replace it.

Hi, Brian:
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that because I never used the Clonezilla program.
Each cloning program has its own way of doing things.
I've only used the free Macrium Reflect software to create system images and clone drives.
Macrium is no longer free, but it offers a free 30-day trial program, and there are some websites that still have the free Macrium 8 software available for download.
There must be YouTube videos out there you can search for...'How to clone a drive with clonezilla,' or a search subject to that effect.
