Notebook 17-by0062ST
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Yesterday Windows installed the 1903 build and that caused my Tap to Click feature to be turned back on.  This was the case when I bought the notebook last year.  Then, with the help of a remote HP person, we downloaded a Whiskey Lake driver (according to my notes) that allowed me to disable the feature.  As it is now, none of the fixes I read about in this forum work, because there is no place in the Mouse section in Control Panel to do what is suggested.  Changing my registry is not an option I will try.  Can anyone help?  Thank you,

Leslie

Hi @dedudette22

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Download and install the ELAN Touchpad Driver - Whiskey Lake

You may also try disabling the touchpad using these steps -

1) Click Start and then Control Panel.
2) Select Classic View from the left side of the window.
3) Double-click the Mouse icon and, then, select the Device settings tab.
4) Click the Settings button and, then, Tapping.
5) Un-select the Enable tapping checkbox and click OK.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your help.  I was able to find an Elan Touchpad Setting link on the program list on the Start menu, and make the change there.  Therefore I have not tried your suggestions.  I will say, however, that in Windows 10 (at least my version), one cannot find Control Panel from the Start menu.  When you do find it, though, there is no Classic View available.  And, there is no way in any of the Mouse settings to enable or disable Tap to Click.  It is simply not there.

Thanks again for your suggestion of the driver.  I will remember that should I find myself in that situation in the future.

The new version of windows 10 has crushed me. pls be advised that the control panel can no longer be accessed from the window key.  When I search for it I CAN find it, but the options suggested to fix this problem are no longer available. please suggest a fix that will work for the latest W10 build. Thank you, -Tommy

Tommy, what I do is open Settings and then search for Control Panel.  Not intuitive but it works.

As I mentioned above, I can find the control panel by searching. I'm pointing out that it is obtuse.  But once the control panel is accessed, the outlined procedure demands clicking on things that aren't on the screen. Thanks anyway. I appreciate your effort. Pls try your solution on a computer with the 18362 Build for Windows 10.

The catch is that the settings are not available through Control Panel.

After installing the driver as in post #2 of this thread and restarting your computer, you will find an entry "ELAN touchpad settings" in the alphabetical list of programs in the Start menu (you can also use Search). That program will allow you to change all the settings of the touchpad.

In fact, it was mentioned in post #3 of this thread, but I didn't immediately  pay attention to it...

This worked!  I just scrolled the start list to Elan Touchpad Settings and the Tap option was right there!  2 days of futile searching and I almost skipped right over this one!  My new Pavilion touchscreen laptop is usable at last.  Thank you.

Hello, I have an Asus that has the Elan touchpad driver. My solution involved going into the "Local Disk (C:)" file directory, click on Program Files (not Program Files(x86)), click into the "Elantech"  directory, then click on the ETDAniConf application. This will bring up the smart-pad window where you can change the tap-click to off.
