I just upgraded my internet service to 1Gbs BUT am not able to benefit because the computer cannot use a 5G network. Verizon technician said I need to change the NIC card - Best Buy said to contact HP and if they sell you one then Best Buy will attempt to install it.

Hi:
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information...

You're very welcome, Ron:
According to the information I could find regarding the notebook product number you posted, your notebook comes with a Realtek RTL8723DE Wifi/Bluetooth adapter.
You can replace that model wifi adapter with this one...
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.
You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.
I see some Intel 3165 cards listed on the eBay listings, so don't buy those.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15
RTL8821CE - Buy RTL8821CE with free shipping on AliExpress
On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001.
However, I can't find a service manual for that product number.
If you enter the serial number in the box at the link below, please let me know if the results return a model series.
Please do not post the serial number.

Good Morning Paul:
Below are the results from the search:
5JR88AV - HP W/K PHTM 15t-da000 CTO2 BNBPC
FS129UA#ABA - HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr NB PC US
Question - does the computer have to be taken apart to install the new card?
Thanks again,
Ron

Good morning, Ron.
From the info you posted it sounds like you have the 15t-da000 model because the dv7-1135nr has a different product number and is more than 10 years old.
You can confirm that your notebook has the Realtek RTL8723DE wifi adapter by going to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, and there you will find the name and model number of the wifi adapter.
If it is indeed the RTL8723DE, then you can replace it with the model I posted yesterday.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

If you do not feel like taking the notebook apart to upgrade the wifi card, then you can always purchase a USB dual band wifi adapter.
