I recently replaced my battery with an official HP battery. The old one was swollen. If i install my old battery, the computer works fine. With the new one, the computer doesn't recognize it, so it does not show a status light on the outside of the computer, nor does it show up in my icon list. I have checked my device firmware and it says it is up to date. not sure what to do.

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!
If you have recently purchased a new genuine HP battery for your laptop and it's not being recognized by your HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0013dx (4WW36UA), there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Check Compatibility: Ensure that the battery you purchased is compatible with your specific laptop model. HP laptops may have different battery models for different laptop series or models. Verify that you have the correct battery for your laptop with p/n: L29184-005 "Battery 6C 84Wh 3.64Ah LI SU06XL".
- Test Your Battery using HP's PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows (preferred method) as found here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2268927-1713329-16.
- Battery Contacts: Sometimes, the issue might be related to poor contact between the battery and the laptop's battery connectors. Make sure that the battery is properly inserted into the laptop and that the contacts are clean and free from dust or debris.
Firmware/BIOS Update: In some cases, a laptop may require a firmware or BIOS update to recognize a new battery properly. Visit HP's official website (see here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-15-df0000-x360-convertible-pc/23238160/m...) and check for any available updates. If there is a relevant update, follow the instructions to install it. Make sure you got your laptop's most recent BIOS version: F.49 Rev.A.
Restart the Laptop: Try restarting your laptop with the new battery installed. Sometimes, a simple reboot can help the laptop recognize the battery.
Check for Driver Updates: Ensure that Windows 11 has all the most recent drivers installed. Sometimes, updating or reinstalling battery-related drivers can help the laptop recognize the new battery.
Check for Counterfeit Batteries: Unfortunately, counterfeit batteries are sometimes sold as genuine. Make sure that you purchased the battery from a reputable source or an official HP distributor to avoid this issue.
Battery Calibration: After the new battery is recognized and working correctly, it's a good practice to calibrate it. This involves fully charging and discharging the battery to ensure accurate reporting of its capacity.
Remember to exercise caution when dealing with laptop batteries, and always follow safety guidelines provided by HP. If you're unsure about any of the steps or feel uncomfortable performing them yourself, it's best to seek professional assistance.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried all of this. The only one I have not tried is the bios settings because the link will only give me an option for windows 10. I have windows 11. you would think a simple battery change would be a lot easier than this.
