New SSD not recognized

I decided to upgrade my laptop hp envy dv7-7243cl by putting the OS on a SSD. I got the Samsung Pro 850 256gb.  At first, I plugged the SSD to the laptop using an SSD to USB 3.0 Adapter (Sabrent). The disk was recognized and formatted in the disk management. After that, I decided to install it inside the laptop (empty secondary spot for hdd) using the Genuine Newmodeus Product HDD caddy and cable for HP dv7t 7000.  The Samsung SSD was nowhere to be found: nothing in the disk management, nothing when using "diskpart" in command prompt. Then I unplugged the ssd and plugged the HDD into that Sata port but the screen was displaying " Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard drive. Hard Disk (3FO)" when I turned on the laptop. I even used the new genuine cable with the HDD in the primary Sata and it worked fine. After all these tests, I believe that the secondary Sata might not be correctly configurated. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

I have seen this issue before. The laptop didn't recognize the secondary drive when installed in. The solution was to install the drive and then go to BIOS and perform the hdd checks.

I had a little issue to access the BIOS (  I had to goggle it, lol) but it worked as a charm.

You are most welcome!! I'd suggest to use the Samsung migrating software: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html

to transfer the OS to the SSD. Then put the SSD to the primary bay, hdd into the secondary one and then in Windows assign letters to the secondary drive partitions (sometimes also an issue with secondary hard drives).

I had to clean up little bit the HDD so that the used volume will be a perfect fit for the SSD. I used the installation CD that came with the SSD and I installed and ran "Samsung Magician" and "Samsung Data Migration". It was quite easy. I exchanged the drives as you suggested. However, I didn't have to assign the letters to either one of the drives; SSD was (C:) and HDD was (F:) which was fine to me. I formatted the HDD after verifying that everything was great. My only concern is to find a simple and accurate method to relocate my Users folder to the HDD. I searched a lot and watched multiple videos on Youtube. I'm not sure which method to use yet. I'd appreciate any suggestion or advice you could provide. Thank you again for your inestimable assistance.

It's not recommended to rellocate the User or Data directories from the C: drive. I'd probably mapped the drive as a network one to share it on a different drive/cloud.
