My current notebook cannot upgrade to Windows 11. So IL want to buy a new Windows 11 computer. I use my computer for internet search, email, MS Office, Quicken, WhatsApp, Kindle. I don't play games.
I like the 17 inch screen. Amazon has several with 16 GB Ram, 32 GB Ram and 64 GB Ram around $500 to $700. They also have Lenovo Ideapad in same price range.
Whatt do you recommend

I suggest that you just write down what you need for specifications and do an online search.
Asking us for a recommendation for a laptop is not within the intended scope of the forum.
That is not what we are here for.
You can also go to a big box store and see what is available there.

Why can't you upgrade your PC to W11?
The Intel® Core™ i5-8250U processor it comes with meets the minimum W11 hardware requirements according to the processor specs.

Well, HP is wrong.
Did you try upgrading the PC to W11?
You can do that by clicking on the blue Windows Installation Assistant button at the link below (1st option) to begin an in-place upgrade from W10>W11.
If things don't work right on W11, you have 10 days to easily go back to W10 as long as you don't delete the W1 upgrade files or the Windows.old folder.

Thank you for your prompt response. My compouter is 8 GB RAM, Intel R Core i5 72006U CPU @ 2.56 GHz iwth a 128 GB graphics card. I was told the hardware won't supporthe upgrade. And even if it does, I don't think I'm capable of doing it. I'd have to take it to the Geek Squad

You're very welcome.
I found a link where the HP specs indicated that your notebook came with an Intel® Core™ i5-8250U processor, but the parts list indicates that it comes with an Intel Core i5-7200U processor which is not supported by Microsoft to run W11.
There is a workaround you can easily do if you are interested in upgrading your PC to W11 as is.
You can do an in-place upgrade from W10 to W11 24H2 on your PC as is>
Watch this video, which is the easiest way to do it in my opinion, and I have used several different ways to do this during the last 3 years.
How to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported PC in 2025 (New Easiest Method, No CMD)
Download the W24H2 ISO file and use that (3rd option).
You can download the free 7-Zip file utility from the link below. The top line is for 64 bit.
You'll have to repeat this procedure if and when Microsoft rolls out the new W11 builds because a PC that does not meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements will never automatically get the update to the next build.
They have been releasing new W11 builds each October so far.
Other than that, your PC will continue to get the monthly cumulative and other updates.
That's only a minor inconvenience to have continued OS support beyond October of 2025.

If not, a new notebook would be your only option to run W11.

Paul, you've been great. Given my ineptness with computers, I think the best if for me to buy a new computer. My needs are internet browsing, WhatsApp, Quicken for banking, email, calander, MS Office and Kindle. I use Norton 360 as well. I am totally confused as to what I should buy. I've been looking on Amazon in the $500 to $800 range and they show everything from 16 GB Ram to 64 GB Ram and intel and AMD processors.-- i3 or i5 or i 7. I'm totally confused Is there a specific laptop or configuaration you'd recommend me buying. Thanks again.

You're very welcome.
It would be difficult for me to make a recommendation.
If you like the 17" size notebook display, this model seems very decent for the price if you can believe the seller as to what all it comes with.
Sellers like this buy popular HP notebooks and then upgrade them with more memory or larger drives, etc.
The drawback to this model is you would have to switch out of S-mode to install programs not available from the Microsoft store.
I prefer Windows Professional operating systems and would pay more to get a PC that came with W11 Pro, but I don't know if you need the Office 2024 program which they claim comes with the PC or not.
If you asked me 6 or more years ago about getting a notebook with an AMD processor, I would have said stay away.
But I received a HP notebook in 2020 with an AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor, 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB NVMe SSD and I like it a lot.
Previous to that I would have always recommended PC's with Intel processors.
I still like PC's with Intel processors, but now I'm not adverse to AMD platforms like I used to be.
Shop around and buy what meets your needs and budget.
Like Erico had mentioned, it may be a good idea to visit Best Buy, Office Depot, Sam's Club, etc., and actually get a look and feel of a notebook before buying one.

thanks again. I'll take a look. I'm 82 and like the bigger screen even though my son said I should buy a levono but they only come in 15.6 inch screens. Very confusting to know what to buy diffenrent processers, different generations, way too confusing.
