UPDATE: The WIN11  start menu finally changed to the NEW start menu May 2026.

I purchased a new HP ELITEBOOK 8 laptop Dec 30. I used Windows Backup from my old HP ENVY laptop and choose the latest backup on Windows Backup/Onedrive when configuring new laptop. Once all the data transferred and the Windows Updates on new laptop ran I noticed the Win11 Start Menu is not the new version that has been rolling out since last Nov. This new laptop is 25H2 and is latest build to get the new start menu. My previous HP EVNY on 24H2 has the new WIN11 Start Menu since mid Dec. How do I get the new Win11 Start Menu on my new laptop without using Vivetool, a patch, or look for the update on the Microsoft Catalog?

Hi @Kcsdk,

If your HP EliteBook is not showing the new Windows 11 Start Menu after transferring data and completing Windows updates, here are the steps you can take to ensure you have the latest version:

  1. Check for Windows Updates:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Click on Check for updates to ensure that all available Windows updates are installed.
  2. Install Optional Updates:

    • In Windows Update, select Advanced options > Optional updates.
    • Review and install any optional updates that might be available.
  3. Windows Insider Program:

    • Make sure you have not accidentally opted into the Windows Insider Program without realizing. This could cause different versions of the Start Menu based on different channels.
    • To check: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. If you’re not interested in testing new features, ensure this is set to off.
  4. Reset the Start Menu:

    • You can attempt to reset the Start Menu settings by performing a reboot. Sometimes, user interface elements update after a restart.
  5. Compatibility and Drivers:

    • Ensure all device drivers, especially for graphics, are updated. This can often affect visual elements of the Operating System.
    • Visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads for any specific updates for your HP EliteBook 8.
