Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended

I recently replaced my laptop battery with a new one (less than 6 months old).

I am facing the following problems:
• Battery backup has reduced a lot.
• I fully charged the laptop and kept it completely powered off for 2 days.
When I opened the laptop, the battery was completely drained (0%).
• When I connected the charger, the battery suddenly jumped to 97%.
• I used the laptop for about 2 minutes and then shut it down.
• After around 45 minutes, when I turned it on again, the laptop was completely off and battery was again 0%.
• Even after full charge, the battery drains very fast.
• I am only doing very light work like viewing code (no videos, no heavy usage),
but the battery percentage drops quickly.

This behavior does not seem normal.
Please advise if this is a battery calibration issue, faulty/duplicate battery,
or any hardware-related problem.

Hi @Kv_2002,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your description suggests several possibilities for the battery drainage issue in your laptop. Here are a few things you might consider checking or trying to resolve the problem:

Check for System or BIOS Settings:

  • Some laptops have settings that can impact battery usage even when powered off, such as "Always-On USB" which keeps USB ports powered.
  • Make sure to disable any unnecessary features in the BIOS/UEFI that might use power when the laptop is off.

Battery Calibration:

  • Sometimes a battery may need to be calibrated to report charge levels accurately. This typically involves a full charge followed by a complete discharge and then a full charge again.

Update BIOS/Firmware:

  • Ensure that your laptop's BIOS and any firmware related to power management are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to address known issues. Official HP® Support

Check for a Faulty Battery:

  • Although the battery is new, it could still be faulty. Consider obtaining a replacement battery to test if the issue persists with a different unit.

Battery Health Check:

  • Use diagnostic tools provided by your laptop manufacturer to assess the health of the battery. Some systems have built-in diagnostics accessible at boot.

Inspect Power Settings:

  • Ensure that the power settings on your laptop are properly configured to maximise battery efficiency.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
