OMEN by HP - 15-ce008ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey All,

I purchased a new Kingston 500GB NVMe SSD to replace the original 128GB that came in my OMEN.  I cloned the original drive to the new one using an external M.2 NVMe USB SSD Adapter and AOMEI Backupper Professional. At the end, the drives ‘looked’ identical including the partitions.  When I installed the new SSD it was not recognized by my computer.

What I've tried so far:

  1. Installed the new SSD and when it booted I got a blue screen with Error code 0xc000025 (grrr);
  2. Created a Windows Boot Manager DVD and changed the BIOS boot sequence;
  3. Attempted to use the tool to fix with the Automatic Fix options … no go;
  4. Attempted to use the Troubleshooting / Advanced options / cmd prompt / bootrec process but I was denied access at the /fixboot step … so no go;
  5. I ran a chkdsk and there are no errors on the new SSD;
  6. Changed the boot sequence back to the HD;
  7. Reinstalled the old SSD and the computer booted fine but now the battery says it’s at 30% but plugged in but it won’t go past that (ggrrr);
  8. Placed the new SSD back into the USB SSD Adapter;
  9. Used AOMEI Partition Assistant to compare the two drives and everything ‘looks’ identical include the formatting of the four partitions.

Any help with the transition would be greatly appreciated…

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try clean installing W10 on your new NVMe SSD by making bootable installation media with the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Another thing you can try is to create a bootable USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool that will reinstall W10 the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

Make sure the cloud recovery tool software gives you the option as to which drive you want to install Windows on, because you don't want it installing on the 1 TB 2.5" storage drive.
