My new desktop envy i7 16 Ram makes annoying low buzzing sound when turned on. It's brand new.  The other envy 32 ram that I have, also brand new, does not make that sound and only difference is the 32g.  Both are brand new.  Any thoughts?

Hi @JGRaven,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a buzzing sound emanating from a new desktop computer, especially one equipped with an i7 processor and 16GB of RAM like your HP Envy, which can be concerning. Here are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps to identify and potentially resolve the issue:

  • Check for Loose Components: Vibrations from loose components inside the computer can sometimes cause buzzing sounds. Ensure that all components, such as the CPU cooler, GPU, power supply, and case fans, are securely fastened in place.
  • Inspect the Power Supply Unit (PSU): Faulty or low-quality power supplies can produce buzzing sounds, especially when under load. Listen closely to determine if the buzzing sound is coming from the PSU. If so, you might need to replace it with a higher-quality unit.
  • Monitor System Temperatures: Excessive heat can cause components like fans to spin faster, leading to increased noise levels. Use monitoring software to check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU. If they're running hot, consider improving case airflow or investing in better cooling solutions.
  • Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all device drivers and the system BIOS are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause hardware to operate inefficiently, leading to abnormal noises.
  • Isolate the Source: Try to isolate the source of the buzzing sound by listening closely to different components of the computer while it's running. This can help pinpoint the exact location and potentially identify the culprit.
  • Consider Electrical Interference: In some cases, external factors such as electrical interference or grounding issues can cause buzzing sounds in electronic devices. Try moving the computer to a different location or testing it in another room to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
