@Eeeeehelp, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.
I understand you're facing an issue where your new HP Pavilion 16 laptop does not detect the battery and powers off when unplugged. Let's work through this together.

Perform a Hard Reset

This can help clear any temporary hardware miscommunication.

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any peripherals.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter (leave the battery in if it's removable) and power on the laptop.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can cause battery detection issues.

  • Visit the HP Support page.
  • Enter your HP Pavilion 16 model number.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS, Chipset, and Power Management drivers.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Use HP’s built-in diagnostics to check battery health:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery Test.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and note any error codes.

You can also run diagnostics using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows - HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support

Battery Status in Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
