We are trying to install apps etc for boys, it says the 29.1Gb has been taken up by system & reserved/ apps & features.
I bought it thinking that 30GB would be enough for what the boys need but I didn’t realise it would be taken up by the laptops “systems” etc.
Can anyone advise? I can take it back and get a different one as only got it 3 weeks ago? Are there any other options?

What you are seeing is not a memory problem but a storage problem. That model comes with a 32 GB eMMC SSD which is not upgradeable. And yes the SSD can be used up pretty quickly by the operating system, drivers, apps, etc. You could buy and use a microSD card for the system and use as storage though that is not an ideal situation but is a work around. If they are gaming and using the system for schoolwork then you may want something that has more capabilities. That would mean an SSD (could be HDD but they are much slower and many new systems no longer use mechanical drives) with at least 128GB of storage and better graphics card. The system would also have a better CPU than the Stream 11.

As @JJOcean mentioned, it's not a "memory" issue; it's a "disk space" issue -- and unfortunately with that model, the space can not be enlarged in any way.
However, here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here: https://www.getclone.app/download/category/11-cleanmgr
Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Check your local big box online store for deals right now or go to the HP store for more information. But a system like this would be a nice happy medium (note it is in Canadian dollars at the HP Canada site so there should be a US version) as it has a good size fast SSD. Enough memory for most uses though it is expandable. And has the Ryzen CPU with Vega GPU. Personally I am partial to the Ryzen CPUs with integrated Vega GPU as they have better performance than Intel integrated GPUs, but that is a personal preference. Again it depends on your budget and what the system will be used for. Do some research and check reviews on the Internet.
