My new HP laptop will not physically accept an SD card or micro SD adapter card. I have one SanDisk 8gb card which works, anything else by multiple manufacturers will not insert.

Its specs

It accepts all standard SD form factor cards (or microSD cards in an adapter). What do you mean not insert ? Are they PHYSICALLY same shape and size with your SanDisk 8GB card ? If yes, please try again.

Regards.

Thank you for your response.

I have six laptops of various sizes and ages, all of which accept SD cards/micro SD card adapters. When I insert the SanDisk 8gb card, it goes in all the way, leaving about 1/8" showing. All other cards leave about 1/4" exposed and the system does not see them. Several cards I have tried are either brand new or very close and all function in other laptops. All cards appear identical. I even filed one card down in thickness/length/width to match exactly the 8gb card, to no avail.

This laptop has 256gb SSD and I planned on using a 512gb or 1024gb SD card as auxiliary storage, not needing to remove it every time I load up my laptop to travel, and making it easy to backup/transfer data to another laptop/PC. I have the two USB3 slots occupied with two SanDisk 256gb UltraFit  Flash drives and use the USB-C for my wireless mouse.

I tried to contact HP Support about this but got no response via chat and their website would not provide me a phone number. It appears they may be on vacation. I am sure it is a problem with the SD expansion slot and expect they will have to correct it themselves (HP) or authorize me to take it to an approved repair shop. Being a new laptop, I am not about to experiment with trying to get a card into the slot by forcing it in.

I posted on here primarily to see if anyone else has experienced this problem and what they did about it.

This is my  fifth HP PC, three being desktops (the first with an enormous 8gb HDD) and two laptops. I have never had any problem with any of them until this. Like other problems, this too will pass.

Nothing to stop other cards to have same result, because they are PHYSICALLY same size (as adapters for microSD cards). I've got at least a dozen of different cards (SD, SDHC and SDXC and microSD cards) from SanDisk, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba ... for a dozen of my notebooks from HP, Dell, Lenovo .... they all fit

I bought them from the following store, except Sony cards.

I can't see PHYSICALLY why they are difference
