HP 14-bp151sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I have a HP 14-bp151sa laptop with the following specs:

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05870678

Brilliant laptop but it only has a 128GB SSD, So I purchased a new SSD to upgrade it to 1TB which is a Corsair MP510 M.2 SSD 1TB from the current  SanDisk SSD x400 m.2 SATA 2280 - 128GB.

- I used Macrium and an adaptor (https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-NVMe-PCIe-Enclosure-PCI-M-2/dp/B07GPB1VR4/ref=sr_1_26?keywords=ssd+m2+a...) to clone the current laptop's SSD onto the new one. All the files are there and the SSD is detected when plugged in via this adaptor.

I then plugged in the new SSD and the laptop just shows:

"Boot device not found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk (3F0)"

When I run the system diagnostics and do a hard drive check the laptop says "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly."

I have already to reseated the SSD and no luck, when I tried swapping back to the old SSD it still works perfectly.

The new SSD is clearly not faulty as I'm able to see all the files on it and the laptop is able to see and read it via the adaptor. I tried running the laptop in legacy boot mode but no luck.

It's been driving me crazy for the last 4 days, any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. I don't see any reason why this SSD is not supported by the motherboard 😞

Thank you in advance,

Leo

The laptop only supports SATA M.2 SSD and the Corsair MP510 is a PCIe/NVME type SSD. It is not compatible with your motherboard. See p. 3 of the Manual here:

Manual

I guess I also would have assumed an Intel 8th gen system would support either kind of M.2 but not so in this case. Post back with any other questions.

Hi Huffer,  Thanks for your reply, this  is what I was  starting to think... but like you I  thought surely not with such a processor.

Well thanks for the answer,  so any m2 sata should work, right?

Yes but my suggestion would be Samsung 860 Evo or WD Blue or Adata SU800
