Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i bought a new ssd for my laptop and tried installing by removing old one and then install windows after that which would make fresh install of windows.Bu the moment i boot the machine it throws error saying no boot device found. I tried to plug in the usb drive to install windows and see if the drive would show up in the windows install wizard but nope it ddidnt show up. But then i plugged the ssd in my desktop it was able to read and i was able to format the drive too.

I thinking of cloning the old drive to new drive.

Old factory ssd is Samsung nvme m.2 256GB new ssd Adata nvme m.2 512GB xpg drive.

Help me ! how can i install new ssd with out cloning the old one.

Not sure how you got that out of what I wrote. Maybe any gen 3x4 will work but what we know is the HP Part number disks will work. Your original factory 256 gig disk is a Samsung 961 and it worked, right? "Any manufacture" was never something I recommended.

Hi @rushipatel90,

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers

I understand that you are trying to upgrade the SSD

No worries, I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

From where did you purchase the hard drive?

Meanwhile, try the below link to Updating the BIOS.

Hi Raj

Thanks for reply

I already have a new bios in my machine.

I bought it from Amazon.

Hi @rushipatel90,

Thanks for the reply.

I would suggest you run the BIOS.

On the BIOS page under system configuration

Disable legacy and  enable secure boot

Let me know if this works.

Eagerly waiting for the reply.

Cheers!

Hi Raj

I ran the update and i can see it is in secure boot mode and legacy is disabled.

But when i inserted the new ssd and inserted the usb windows installation , installation wont recognize the SSD.

Thanks,

Rushi

Secure/legacy etc. is not the issue. The question is does your motherboard support your ADATA NVME disk?

The laptop does support some NVME disks here is the list from the manual:

1-TB, 2280, PCIe, 3×4, NVMe, solid-state drive supporting TLC DS 865697-002

512-MB, M2.2280, PCIe, 3×4, SS, NVMe, solid-state drive supporting TLC DS 847110-010

256-MB, M2.2280, PCIe, 3×4, SS, NVMe, solid-state drive supporting TLC DS 847109-012

These are Samsung PM961 disks. We have not had much traffic here from Users trying to install your model of Adata disk so hard to say if it is compatible. We have had a few Users let us know that the Samsung 960 Evo and WD Black models did not register on their HP laptops. Unfortunately right now PCIe/NVME M.2 disks are not a universal plug and play thing and it is causing some frustration. Your best chance at getting it to work is to get one of the drives recommended by HP. Your laptop came with a 256 NVME disk am I correct it is a Samsung PM961 model? It was working, right?

Okay got it

so it has to be a gen3x4 interface drive from any manufacture.
