Following the HP support page on a boot problem eventually caused by error 0502 in syslog, I tried to update the BIOS (from F21 to F22), but I didn't find the option "Firmware-Update" as mentioned in the respective HP support document. I then followed the instruction in this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Update-BIOS-via-USB-No-firmwar... and downloaded the HP Diagnostic UEFI tool, created a UEFI USB stick and started the tool. But if I select any of the BiosUpdate options it says always "The selected boot device failed".
I cannot use the new laptop as it has no OS preinstalled and the installation media cannot boot due to the mentioned error. Is there anything else I can do?

Error 0502 is a BIOS checksum error.
Follow the instruction contained in the document at the link above to recover the BIOS.
If that fails to recover your BIOS, then I recommend contacting the vendor you purchased the notebook to arrange for its replacement.
