After an update I am unable to access as it does not recognise pin. It then goes to pin setup where it is supposed to send a code to email but no code is received. I am therefore locked out

Hi @Lone3453

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds incredibly frustrating—being locked out after an update is the last thing you need. Since the PIN reset process isn’t sending a verification code, here are some steps to try:

1. Check Your Email Settings

  • Ensure the email address shown in the PIN setup screen is correct.
  • Check your spam/junk folder for the verification email.
  • If using Gmail or Outlook, check the Promotions/Updates tabs.

2. Try an Alternative Login Method

  • Click Sign-in options on the login screen.
  • If available, try logging in with your Microsoft account password instead of the PIN.

3. Boot into Safe Mode

  • Hold Shift and click Restart from the login screen.
  • Select TroubleshootAdvanced optionsStartup SettingsRestart.
  • Press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
  • Try logging in and resetting the PIN from SettingsAccountsSign-in options.

4. Reset PIN via Microsoft Account

5. Enable Built-in Administrator Account

  • On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold Shift, then select PowerRestart.
  • Click TroubleshootAdvanced optionsCommand Prompt.
  • Type:net user administrator /active:yes
    • Press Enter, restart your laptop, and log in as Administrator.
    • Create a new user account and transfer your files.
