HP Monitor VH240a
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I just received an HP VH240a monitor to connect with a 14" laptop purchased March 2019.  The monitor works well except for the audio; HP online technician could not help and I was told I may need driver updates for the laptop which I'm not willing to pay for esp as  both HP items are relatively new. Audio works on the laptop when not connected. Is there a fix for this to work?  Thanks.

The specs of your monitor is

       https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05624169

It does not have speakers. System sends sound to it thru HDMI port therefore please disable HDMI sound OR select only internal speakers

   (a) Right click Speaker icon,

   (b) Select Open Sound settings

   (c) Look at Output section and select the right one

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, BH!  I used your solution to change Sound Output Settings to the laptop speaker then reconnected the laptop to external speakers; the max volume on the laptop is not very loud and the customer feedback re: monitor sound quality is that it's also not robust... so this works!

I'm quite please with the monitor so far since working on a tiny screen for the last 9 Covid months is starting to affect my eyes😎

Cheers!
