I'm trying to see if I can upgrade/add memory and get the last drivers available for a no longer supported
- HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv2000 p/n RU767UA#ABL service tag dv2201ca Laptop.
- CPU is a Turion 64x2 1.6 Ghz chip.
- Memory is 1 GB.
- OS is Vista 6.0.6002 SP2.
- NOTE on a 32 bit OS (for some? reason).
- BIOS is HP F.39 (22/11/2007) and I have no idea if that is the last/most current available.
I have available a 2 x 2GB 200-pin DDR2 @667mhz (Corsair) set of modules but I'm not sure if they are suitable for use in this laptop.
Hoping to upgrade to Windows 10 (free?) or try using a Linux OS (Zorin-OS-15.1-Lite iso)
Any info/help/advice would be MUCH appreciated...from an old retired IBM M/F dinosaur!

Please let me know if the following information provides enough detail to describe the laptop.
The top of the case has embossed 'HP Pavilion Entertainment PC' which another site said was not an accurate enough description to identify the laptop. The bottom of the case has a paper sticker with the following...
Product: hp pavilion dv2000
s/n: which I'm not going to list here
p/n RU767UA#ABL
...followed by a hp service tag with dv2201ca specifying a 1 year warranty.
The laptop's "Start" tab for "Computer" for the "System properties" tab displays a "System" panel containing the following "System" information display of the following...
*NOTE* the second line window label shows " - Control Panel - System and Maintenance - System"
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: HP Pavilion dv2000 (RU767UA#ABL)
Rating: 3.0 Windows Experience Index
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 1.60 GHz
Memory (RAM): 1.00 GB
System type: 32-bit Operating System

Hi A.:
I've been able to update some Apple s/w to version 2.1.3 (2.22MB) but when I follow the instructions suggested for a Windows Update I end up in what appears to be a "Checking for Updates..." loop that, somewhere along the line (pun intended), drops my wireless link.
When I get to the point of checking for updates, I get the following message...
"To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update"
...followed by lines saying:
- the last check for updates 26/12/2010 @ 3:49PM
- updates were installed 01/01/2003 @12:15AM
...at this point the "Checking for Updates..." window bar starts cycling through the 'mini-window' (:indicating it is doing something) and that continues even while the lower right connectivity indicator (an icon with two display screens) eventually shows up with a red X between them and hovering the cursor over them generates a message 'Not Connected' and 'You are currently not connected to any networks'.
I'm not sure if that (not connected) is the case or if it is just timing out the laptop's connectivity indicator while it searches...I'll just leave it for now but I suspect the laptop connectivity is actually timing out 'cause the search takes too long.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated!
KENS51
P.s. - The only way I've been able to re-establish wireless connectivity is to power off/on.

Hi A.:
The link is for Win 10, 8 & 7 but doesn't mention Vista which is on this laptop. However, after I powered it off/on (to get my internet connection back) it immediately went back to "Windows Update" and "Checking for updates..." with the moving action bar in the mini window indicating (?) it is searching so I've just let it continue for now...still not sure if it is in a loop.

@KenS51 I'm afraid I have some rather bad news related to Windows Vista:
As of April 11, 2017, Windows Vista customers are no longer receiving new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft.
You may click here for details on the same.
I personally suggest you upgrade your device or check with a local tech for further assistance,
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
