Hello and thank you for any help
Not long ago, early January, I was having no issues and my touchpad was working fine; there was nothing significant to report. As of the past few days, I have had no mouse cursor and near minimal touchpad functionality. I say near minimal because the click function on the touchpad works but everything else is obsolete at the moment. The culprit would appear to be a windows update, as the past week or two I had been having issues with getting the laptop to shutdown; it would just freeze on the blue "shutting down" screen and infinitely stay on with the loading wheel rotating. That hasn't been an issue, but since that went away from a more recent update, my touchpad functionaility is nearly gone as I said and there is no visible mouse cursor on the screen. Thankfully I have a touch screen and have been able to manage and post to these forums now, however this is not a solution. Interestingly, the click function on the touchpad works. For example, if I have recently used the touch screen to touch the chrome icon on the taskbar to open a chrome window, then clicking the touchpad will have the same function and open the chrome window or close the chrome window so I can see the desktop home/wallpaper.
As far as remedies that I have tried goes, essentially every basic solution you can think of I have likely tried. I have unistalled the drivers and reinstalled, both using windows to do so and manually through downloading the drivers from HP's website. Nothing has worked.
Any input is appreciated as this is fairly frustrating and hindering my ability to use my laptop.

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Try using the Touchpad and let me know how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Let's try reinstalling the driver from Device Manager
- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for Mice and other pointing devices and expand the List
- Look for Touchpad driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Touchpad driver and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
If the issue persists, please try a System Restore to an earlier time before the issue started
- Select the Start button, enter control panel, and then choose it from the list of results.
- Enter recovery in the Control Panel search box.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
- Choose the most recent app, driver, or update on the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs. You'll see list of items that will be deleted if you remove this restore point. If you're OK with the deletions, select Next > Finish. Or, if needed, select an earlier restore point before selecting Next > Finish.
Note: If you’re not seeing any restore points, it might be because system protection isn’t turned on. To check, go to the Control Panel, search for Recovery, and then select Recovery > Configure System Restore > Configure and make sure Turn on system protection is selected.
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you 😊

The first solution of uninstalling the driver works, but only temporarily. When I restart my pc, the touchpad functions and a mouse cursor appears. However it is only basic function, moving the cursor and clickling both right and left. None of the unique fucntions work, such as two finger scrolling. I say temporary because as soon as I shut down my machine again and reboot, I have lost the mouse cursor and touchpad functionality. So this solution does not work for a fully repair as completing these steps every time is not practical.
I have not tried a system restore to a previous time yet.

Please try the System Restore to an earlier time and if the issue persists, then I suggest you Reset the Notebook
