My Chromebook won’t power on

@EBryNt, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Chromebook 15 won’t power on (no lights, no screen activity), follow these steps to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:

Check the Charger and Power Source

  • Use the original charger. Third-party chargers may not deliver the correct voltage.
  • Check the charging port for debris or damage.
  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • Check for charging signs:
  1. Orange LED light: Charging
  2. White LED light: Fully charged
  3. No light: May not be charging at all

Hard Reset (Battery and Power Drain)

Perform this if there are no lights or response:

Steps:

  • Unplug the charger.
  • Hold down the Refresh key + Power button together for 10-15 seconds.
  • Release and wait 5 seconds.
  • Plug the charger back in and try turning it on normally.

Try a Different Charger (if possible)

If there's still no LED or power sign, try a known-good USB-C Chromebook charger (if your model uses USB-C).

Reset Embedded Controller (EC)

This helps if the EC firmware is frozen.

Steps:

  • Press and hold Esc + Refresh + Power simultaneously for 10 seconds.
  • Release all keys.
  • Chromebook should attempt to boot into Recovery Mode. If it does, power it off, then turn it on normally.

Look for Hardware Damage

Any signs of physical damage, liquid spills, or bent USB-C/power connectors?

If yes, the motherboard or battery may be damaged and require service.

If none of the above works:

It may have a dead battery, faulty mainboard, or power IC failure. We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

It did not help. I updated my Chromebook and it hasn’t worked since. No error code. No lights when plugged into charger. Bought new charger. I purchased my Chromebook on January 30,2025. So I provided receipt to have my warranty updated for it was expired.
