HP Pavilion - 14-ce3606sa

Hi, my HP Pavillion is very loud when I switch it on and the fan is persistantly loud while the laptop is in use. After a while, the laptop also gets very hot. I have used the HP support assistant to run all available diagnostics and sent the laptop to Currys PC world who said HP had put the laptop on a do not repair list so no work could be carried out. Please can someone help.

Hi @rmhelliwell,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some hardware and cooling issues with your HP Pavilion 14 laptop. Here are some steps you can take to address the loud fan noise and overheating.

  • Clean the Laptop: Dust and debris can accumulate inside the laptop over time, blocking airflow and causing it to overheat. Turn off your laptop, unplug it, and open it up (if you are comfortable doing so). Carefully clean the fans and vents using compressed air or a soft brush. Make sure not to damage any components while cleaning.
  • Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date, as well as all device drivers, especially the graphics and chipset drivers. Sometimes, driver updates can help improve fan control and cooling.
  • Check for Background Processes: Some background processes or applications may be using excessive CPU power, causing the laptop to heat up. Check the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) for any resource-intensive processes and close them if necessary.
  • Use a Cooling Pad: Consider using a cooling pad designed for laptops. These pads have built-in fans that help improve airflow and dissipate heat, which can help in reducing the laptop's temperature.
  • Change Power Settings: Adjust your power settings to balance performance and power consumption. Lowering the maximum processor state can help reduce heat generation.
  • Check for Malware: Sometimes, malware or viruses can run in the background and consume system resources, causing the laptop to overheat. Perform a full system scan using reliable antivirus software.
  • Reapply Thermal Paste: If you are comfortable with more advanced laptop maintenance, reapplying thermal paste to the CPU and GPU can improve thermal conductivity and reduce overheating.
  • Backup Data: Before you proceed with any repairs or further troubleshooting, make sure to back up your important data to prevent data loss.

It's essential to address overheating issues promptly, as prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to hardware damage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
