Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good morning.

I am trying to fix this problem with no success since days.

I have a Zbook 15'' Gen1 that I wish to refresh for family use. It is equipped with 320 GB HDD WD Black. I Installed on it (fresh install) Windows 10 and Windows 11 with great success. The problem is that the HDD is a bit slow, so I got a SSD from my spares and started again to boot from the USB Windows installation kit used before to install Win on the HDD.

When the setup asks to me where to install Windows, then Windows installer is not able to perform anything. I does not install, it does not format, it does not delete partitions... nothing at all.

Removed the SSD from the Zbook and put the SSD on a HP Probook and then on a EliteBook,,, both Win10 and Win11 can be installed with NO problem at all

Then I put the HDD with Win10 again in the Zbook, started with Clonezilla USB, connected the SSD to a USB port with an adapter and cloned the HDD to the SSD (no errors), then put replaced the HDD with the SSD. During the boot I reach the Windows logo then I get a blue screen

I upgraded the BIOS, reset the BIOS to factory default... nothing... can not install Windows.

I tryed to disable Secure Boot, but again no way to install Windows.

Then I got another spare disk, but it is a traditional HDD, totally different than the original WD black and Windows 10 and 11 can be installed perfectly.

What's up with this Zbook and SSD ?

Thanks

What is the product information of your ZBook?
How to identify your HP notebook

What is the specific brand model, format and type of the SSD?

The part number should be sufficient.

Not all SSD types (SATA, NVMe) are compatible with different notebooks.

It is a ZBook 15'' Gen1, the one with p/n d5h42av, Intel i7-4700QM

The SSD is a MicroStorage MicroSPARK mSPK-SF12 ( 240 GB ) pulled out from an EliteBook

This SSD works just fine connected to the same ZBook with a USB-SATA adapter and is perfect to install Windows 10 and Windows 11 on a Probook and Elitebook

It was suggested  back in 2019 by HP Expert  @Huffer to try installing Windows 10 with the hybrid graphics disabled.
There is a great discussion on the installation in the thread.

Google has never heard of a MicroStorage MicroSPARK mSPK-SF12.
I  was able to find some information on a Kingspec mSPK-SF12.
