I recently bought a hub of 4x USB-As that connects to the laptop via USB-C.
When I plug it into my laptop, it's not being recognised. It doesn't light up and my laptop acts as if nothing is there at all (nothing new shows up in device manager, even when I show hidden devices).
It's not the hub, because it works fine in my housemate's laptop.
The USB-C port works fine for transfering data to/from and charging my phone, so I assume it's not the port(?)
I've already checked for and installed all available updates from Windows Update, HP, and Intel.
I've individually searched for driver updates in device manager, they all say they're the best available.
I've done the things that google suggested: disabled USB selective suspend under power options, unticked "allow computer to turn off this device" in USB Root Hub Power properties/device manager, reinstalled all the drivers under USB controllers.
The only thing that stood out to me is that when I was looking through HP support pages, it asked me what OS my laptop was running and the only option to submit was Windows 10. HP Support Assistant has also stopped working, saying "This app may not work correctly" and then something else that I can't read quickly enough before it disappears to tell me that it's searching for updates and then that that failed due to a server connectivity issue. I've tried downloading a different version but every time I go to install it it says it's not compatible.
So, what else can I try please? What am I missing? XD
I pulled this from the specs document specific to my laptop:
1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge)

HI @ARLSkye
From your description it sounds as if you are using a non externally powered USB hub.
Some notebooks don't work well with these. You have not provided any model and brand of the USB HUb. That would help.
If the HP Support Assistant App is not working, uninstall it , then download a newer versionfrom the HP Support Assistant web document and install it.

What you are experiencing is what I would expect from a non mainstream brand inexpensive hub.
