Sorry, this is not the issue, maybe I was not clear enough. It is not the Caps Lock button that blinks (and the WiFi light is not lit).
In my case it is the power-On button that lits up when pressed, and after ca 5 secs its light is turned off for ca 1 sec.
Then it starts again, power on button lits up for 5 secs, then off for 1 sec. This repeats whatever I have tried. Nothing is shown on the screen which is completely black. A friend advised me to remove the clock battery (CR2032) for a couple of hours then try again. Is this worth trying ?

Hello @Anatolij1

Instead, you can remove the charger and the battery. Press and hold the power button for 30s. You do not need to remove the CMOS battery.

You will have the same result.

Have downloaded BIOS update from support.hp.com according to YouTube clip.
I managed to get access to an open Win client connected to Internet.

It was not possible to unpack the downloaded (CAB) file, got an error message "unable to unpack CAB".

I suspect thie is due to Windows 7 Enterprise Edition OS on the computer in question.
So I could not continue and create the fat32 formatted USB stick with the BIOS update.

Going to try to find a Win 10 open client tomorrow at another location for another try.

Hello @Anatolij1

unpack the cab file with 7-zip

7zip successfully unpacked the cab file sp111733.exe into InsydeFlash.exe

Running the InsydeFlash.exe I get the following reported problem

Error M-FD:PCI read failed

Call driver (read PCI value)

I suspect unpacking the sp111733.exe cab file on an open windows pc may alter some register of environment settings.
I suppose these values missing is the reported problem, when trying to run the InsydeFlash.exe program unpacked on my Ubuntu and then copied to the windows 7 public pc.

I should mention that the "public pc" is in a public library, may be some virtualized environment.

Any changes to e.g. the file system is gone after logoff. So it is not an open windows client with admin privs.

In hindsight, I wish I had prepared a USB stick with the BIOS install/upgrade on the failed laptop while it worked OK.
