I think everyone is on the same page here. The same SATA connection bay is used for EITHER a 2.5 inch hard drive OR a SATA M.2 disk with the correct adapter. There is no way to have both types of drives at the same time. Take a look at page 67 of the Manual which shows an aerial shot of the whole motherboard all at once. There is no dedicated separate M.2 slot the only way to connect an M.2 disk is with the adapter and a cable into the same bay which could hold a 2.5 inch disk.

I hope that is clear and I think that is correct. The only way to know 100% for sure is to get hold of one and look but you are thinking of buying and do not have it yet, right?

This is the 15-bs500 series which appears the same internally:

@Mfalcon

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Notebook - 15-bw042nl.I read that you would like to know if this laptop has an empty 2.5" slot to add a second SSD or HDD.

I did some research and came across this service manual for your HP printer. Looks like you can either connect a HDD or M.2 solid state drive in to the laptop. However, there is an option to connect a solid state drive.

Please refer to page# 50 to know how to connect the hard drive.

The page# 53 shows how to connect an SSD in to the HDD slot.

Please refer to page# 55 to install the M.2 slot.

I hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks a lor for Your answer.
I want to by this notebook but no one seller was able to answers to my questions.
I see the guide you find for me, but I'm not sure of your opinion. According to me, the two kind of drive are alternatives. At page #54 is written that the ssd will be insert in the hdd 2.5" bay.
I'll wait your opinion. Thanks. Andrew

Ok, now is all clear.

I'm looking for a notebook with SSD + HDD or with SSD and a free bay for HHD... so this in sot the case of 15-bw042 (I saw a great offert in a shop).

But, the connection is only SATA? A lot of other notebook has SATA 3...

SATA is SATA-3 if I was misunderstood.

I find on the Italian Market the model CB028 that has both SDD and HDD.

Is possible to see the tecnical manual for the position of HDD SSD and the ram upgrade?

In the tecnical sheet, the HDD is declared "SATA da 1 TB (7200 rpm)": is SATA 1.0, 2.0, 3.0???

Thanks

Andrea
