Common problems for Battery

HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I have issues with my battery.

It charges only up tp 92% and the status is saying "plugged in, not charging".

Besides, when I use the battery only without AC plugged in the notebook dies abruptly when it comes to low charge without giving me any notification that the battery is running low.

I have found similar question in the forum and other web resources and tried the solutions provided there (uninstall battery driver, restarting, updating driver etc.). Nothing worked.

Also, I ran the HP assistant battery check whch said that the battery is OK:2018-05-31_10h42_27.jpg

I realize that the battery itself can be defect after 2-3 years of using but the computer should be notifying me when the battery is running low. Is there a possibility to solve this?

Thanks

Mike

Hello,

Could you please provide more details about the laptop model or a product number ?

For that you can check this site for assistance:

https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c00033108

If it stays at 92% it means that Windows does not detect when the battery is fully charged or the system does not estimate the precentage properly.

Things you can try are:

-run a UEFI test for the battery:

https://support.hp.com/ro-en/document/c03467259

You can also run the HP Battery check in HP Support assistant but i would vote for the UEFI version. If the test passes try the following:

Perform a power drain: disconnect any external devices from laptop, if possible, disconnect battery then -> Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds;

Try a CMOS reset: connect battery and charger -> Press and Hold Win + V key on keyboard and while doing so, turn on the laptop and after 3 seconds release the keys.

Perform a BIOS update: Go to www.support.hp.com and go to Software and Drivers or just type in the product number of your laptop in the search box then -> Click on "Software and Drivers" -> Click on "GO" to go directly to the software and driver page for your laptop and OS.

In Windows, go into Device Manager -> double click on "Power" (it wil lhave an icon that looks like a green battery) then right click on the first device (probably ACPI compliant battery) and left click "Uninstal" then just click OK and do NOT tick the box that says "Uninstall driver software for this device" and do the same for the second device that should be "ACPI or Microsoft AC adapter";

Lastly, do a battery calibration. It doesn't always help and especially if the battery or laptop is old, this can also cause inacurate readings. But for th ecalibration, let the laptop discharge and the battery as well, then charge it for 24 hours and repeat.

You can als otry this HP online document:

https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c00259897

Apart from this there is not much you can do, besides just re-installing the Operating System on your machine but that wont make the battery charge better. And to answer your last question, depending on the battery level and the information its reporting to the system board, i have seen a POST message where it shows "Battery is at a critical level and needs replacing" but this happens either when the battery does not hold any charge or when the systme is testing the battery and its coming up with errors. Your battery is probably fine its just getting old.

All the best.

Same question but nothing works out

According to the picture above the battery is not charging anymore to full capacity and probably the PC cannot read the power output properly. From what i know the PC calculates how much charge is going in and how much charge is going out and HPSA can see that the capacity is lower than the designed capacity but i doubt you can fix this without just replacing the battery.

St3ve1,
None of the recommendations helped. I tried each except the reinstallation of the OS.
So you suggestion is just to get a new battery?
