HP Notebook - 15-ay006nl (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Notebook suddenly shut down without showing any sign of malfunctioning. Opening the Case, I noticed that 1 Wire of the 7-Wire Ribbon Cable connecting the Power Supply Connector to the Motherboard, was broken. I found, ordered and replaced the ribbon cable, without solving the problem. Taking a closer look at the Motherboard, I noticed a Component, named PD3 and close to the Ribbon Cable, appearing red coloured - see attached photo. I measured the Impedance across the Component and its value is very high (about 100KOhm). If this Compnent is a Fuse, it is probably the cause of the problem. Can anyboy confirm if this Component is really a Fuse ? Or does anybody help on what the cause of the problem may be ? Thanks !

Hi@Antonio61,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Notebook Laptop suddenly shut down without showing any sign of malfunctioning.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is a Windows-based utility that allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine whether the computer hardware is functioning properly. The tool runs within the Windows operating system in order to diagnose hardware failures.
  • Try doing Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works.

Try and check in Bios using the F10 key if it shutdown in Bios. To enter Bios, click restart and keep tapping the F10 key and then turn on the PC at the same time to enter Bios screen.

If the issue persists in Bios then it is a hardware issue on the screen.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Dilip_18,

the Notebook looks simply dead due to a clear Power Supply HW issue. I see no way to follow your suggestions.

Thanks anyway - Antonio

That is a protecting diode. But you can not check diodes on DC without unsoldering them, or you may fry the circuit they are protecting.

I would not even touch anything there without the circuit schematics. If you live in a very healthy growing, or not very rich country, like Poland, India, (Ukraine is already out of the list; let hell take putin), Czech maybe, you can ask local after-service repair stores for a fix. In rich, or stagnating countries, like  Germany or Japan, repairers prefer replacing the boards, and have little practice repairing them; or the service becomes restrictively expensive.
