Hello! Hello out there! My particular laptop came with a miserable 2,4 ghz wifi card with only one antenna port. I want to upgrade to wifi 6- but all of the wifi 6 models have two ports on the wifi cards. Did my model, the  Notebook-15-db0004dx

come shipped with two cables even though the existing wifi card is just using a single antenna cable? In other words, are there two cables soldered onto the motherboard so i can connect one of these dual band cards or just one? Thanks for all your help before I disassemble...

Hi:

 

There is only one antenna wire in your notebook.

 

You can update to the Intel AX200 Wi-Fi adapter with only one antenna wire, but you will not have Bluetooth unless you completely disassemble the notebook including the display panel to run a second antenna wire and transceiver that is listed in chapter 3 of your notebook's service manual.  You would need the applicable kit that includes dual antenna wires.

If you want to do that with or without adding another antenna wire, you need this specific card:

 

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro    HP part number L35282-005.

 

You can find the above model card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the Wi-Fi card.

 

The other option you have is to do an easy direct swap of the RTL8723DE single band card to this Wi-Fi 5 model where the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth works with a single antenna wire as yours is now.

 

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

 

The card has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band with an AC router and an excellent signal.

 

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express. 

 

I see some Intel 3165 cards listed on the eBay listings, so don't buy those.

On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001.
