Hi,
I want to install an additional second 4 GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB) memory module in my HP 15-f387wm Notebook. The memory modules I've seen online mention the number of pins on a module. Is there any way to determine the number of pins I'd need on a new module without opening the computer? Even if I did open it, I'm not sure if I'd know what the pins are. Are they the brass things set in a row on the bottom edge of the module seen in the photo below? Can anyone tell me how many pins I need the new module to have? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi:
All DDR3L notebook memory has the same amount of contact pins (204).
I recommend you purchase memory from Crucial, since they guarantee compatibility. Takes all the hassle out of buying the right memory for your notebook.

For your model, if you want to add a 4 GB chip, this is the one I recommend from the list.

The number of pins on the module is not something you even have to worry about.
Any DDR3L module will have the same number of pins.Yes, the pins are the gold, not brass, contacts that you see on the image that you provided.
The number of pins is the part of the specification that the manufacturers of memory modules must follow when they design and manufacture DDR3 or DDR3l modules
