Hi everyone!

Some time ago, (Like 4 months) I installed a brand new XPG SX6000 Pro PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 512GB On my 15-da0011la Laptop.

When I first installed my os, It all seemed to be fine, until I felt from the outside that the zone where the SSD is in was very hot to the touch. So I checked with the Adata SSD Toolbox the temperature of it, and it was running at 90°C at idle and it was excessively slow for an SSD (I could say that slower than the 5400rpm hhd that came with the laptop) . Obviously I got worried, and shut down the Laptop... It was like that for 3 days and then it started working normally, with temps around 30°C at idle, and transfer speeds around 1.6GB/s, so everything was fine.

 

But a week ago, I reinstalled Windows because I had other accounts from other users that didn't needed them anymore, and I wanted a fresh install of Windows. And the problem started again, but this time it is not stopping, no matter what I try.

 

I first installed the SSD in another PC and it immediately works fine, from the start, with any os, and in any config, it didn't get hot at all. But as soon as I populate the m.2 slot with it, it starts getting hot from the moment that I turn on my laptop, It doesn't matter even if I let the laptop on the Uefi menu, it stills get hot and when I boot into windows or linux (I've tried both os to troubleshoot the problem) it is still very slow, and installing the driver for the ssd controller doesn't make a difference. I updated bios to latest version, that didn't help either.

 

But I discovered that if I reset the bios to the defaults, save and boot windows, it solves the problem until I restart the laptop, and then is the same story, gets hot and slow again. (I don't have to change anything on the bios, just rebooting the laptop causes the problem again until I reset to defaults in the bios)

Could someone help me troubleshoot this please?

I am on bios version F.24 at the time if that helps.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating) 

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
