Hi, I have 14 inch notebook, about 5 years old, Model 14-an025au with 64 GB SSD (Serial number: 5CG707267G
Product number:Y8J99PA). BIOS is F36(RevA) released July 2020.
I want to use the additional ODD sata connector on the motherboard to add extra storage space with an internal hard drive instead of an external hard drive. The problem is for some reason the connection is not active, it does not show up in Device Manager, and has no power. I have tries various optic drives and other drives, BUT none are recognised, they dont even receive power.
The BIOS shows I can boot from this internal connector, BUT the ODD sata connector on the mother board is dead. I believe there is a BIOS setting that needs to be turned on to get this internal connection to work. (I understand that in general you dont allow the General Public to access the advanced settings)
My Question is - as the laptop is WELL OUT OF WARANTY TIME, Is there anyway of turning on this ODD connector. I understand fully permanent damage my occur, and I accept that risk.
Possible solutions
1. Do I have to do something unusual to get the BIOS to use the ODD connector
2. Advise a BIOS software I can install that will show advanced features
3. Send me a program for say a thumb drive that will turn on this ODD connector
4. Is there maybe a code, or keys I can use to activate the ODD sata connector
5. Is there maybe a keycode that opens the advanced features
6. any other options you can suggest
Hoping for a solution and not being told I am not allowed to access this connector.

It specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05323564
It has Single storage option with 64 GB eMMC. No other option for you to add a SATA 3 HDD. The controller for ODD is not suitable for HDD's.

I thank you for your reply.
You state - The controller for ODD is not suitable for HDD's..
I understand that, BUT what if I want to add a cd or DVD rom drive drive. The ODD connector still does not turn on for these drives. so my question remains - as the laptop is WELL OUT OF WARANTY TIME, Is there anyway of turning on this ODD connector. I understand fully permanent damage my occur, and I accept that risk.

Yes, I used the right part. I put 4 different CD/DVD Rom drives into the laptop, Including one from another HP Laptop. They slide right into the vacant cradle in this laptop. All 4 CD/DVD Rom Drives would not register with the motherboard. In fact they would not even start.
The thing is, in the BIOS it states I can set the BOOT ORDER to start with the CD/DVD Rom Drive, but the motherboard wont see the drive.
Is there ANY WAY to get the Motherboard to recognise and see the CD/DVD Drive. Its in the boot order section of the BIOS
