I have an omen 16-wd0073dx 4060 Intel i7-13620h 1TB SSD. I just bought 3 days ago and I have not yet opened it. I am now reading about this black screen issue. This model has no ports on the back. From research it looks like only 16-wf or 16-xf have this issue either Intel or AMD CPU. Can someone confirm? If this model has had this issue I want to return it.

I replied to someone in the original post of the same name "All hp omen 16 2023 have faulty motherboard" and was able to post this morning. Last post was in early March 2025. I rec'd one reply. A few hours later that thread is locked.. in fact all threads on this topic are locked now... Coincidence????? I don't think so. So I restarted this thread with the same name. I think HP locked them to prevent discussion on this topic. May be time to return my new Omen 16 during the return window.

@LamBur11, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your OMEN 16-wd0073dx (Intel i7-13620H, RTX 4060) does not appear to be affected by the black screen issue that some OMEN 16-wf and 16-xf models have experienced. The black screen issue on those models usually occurs during Windows updates or after BIOS/firmware updates.
Since you haven’t opened the laptop yet, here are precautions you can take before setting it up:
1. Check for Updates Carefully
- Before applying any Windows or BIOS updates, research the latest stable version available on the HP Support website for your exact model.
- If a BIOS update is available, check user feedback on HP forums before installing.
2. Create a Recovery Drive
- Use a USB drive (16GB or more) to create a Windows recovery drive.
- Go to Settings > Recovery > Create a recovery drive in case anything goes wrong.
3. Test it Before Customizing
- Boot the laptop and use it for basic tasks before installing major updates or custom drivers.
- If everything works fine out of the box, proceed with updates gradually.
4. Keep a Backup of Drivers
- Download essential drivers from the HP Support website and store them on a USB drive for emergency use.
5. Monitor GPU and Display Behavior
- Run a few games or GPU-intensive apps to test stability.
- If you notice display flickering, external display issues, or sudden black screens, take action immediately.
Since your 16-wd0073dx has no rear ports, it suggests a slightly different motherboard layout than the affected models.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
