Hi I have an OMEN 16-b000 laptop. I was trying to find out how much RAM memmory it supports and found different assertions. Crucial's official upgrade page asserts it supports 64GB (2x32) but this post in this same forums asserts max RAM is 32GB (2x16).

Hi:
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 16 GB.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
However, the Crucial memory report is almost always right, and the notebook probably can support 2 x 32 GB of memory.
You can also run this command to see what Windows indicates the maximum memory is:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply! I've already check using wmic and it reports 32GB. The thing about wmic is that it only reads data from SMBIOS (provided by vendor) and does not do any hardware check. It is known that vendors usually fill this SMBIOS data with values that had been tested regardless it's the real max supported value or not. As this Notebook model do not have any variant that ships with 64GB RAM this configuration probably hasn't been tested be HP.
I think the only way to be sure about this is buying a 32GB so-dimm.

You're very welcome.
That is probably the safest thing to do.
Buy one 32 GB chip, install it with the existing chip and if the notebook works fine and reports the correct amount of memory, it would be safe to install a second 32 GB memory chip and have 64 GB.
