I took my older HP 15-P083SA out of storage (moving house took over 3yrs) but it wouldn't power on. I got a new HP battery and a generic power supply but it still won't turn on. The only activity is the power light comes on then the caps lock flashes 5 sets of 3 times, then the power light turns off for 3 secs, then this all repeats. Before I got the replacement battery, the little orange light by the power would simply flash 3 times and repeat.

Hello @Markchip , how are you ?
Apparently this equipment may have problems with its memory or even its motherboard.
Try opening it and cleaning its contacts.
Now, if the fault still persists, you will have to ask a technical assistant to evaluate the fault.

All I have now is the caps lock giving 3 long white flashes, repeated 4 times, before it finally powers off, then on again which is then repeated on a loop. Power on 3 long white flashes on the caps lock key, repeat this 4 times, then it powers off - then on again... repeat the above endlessly. I've tried booting on battery only or with mains power power aswell, or on mains power with no battery, always with the same result. I should add that this is after the laptop was unused for 2 years whilst our house was being built, plus I've also just bought a new HP battery and a generic charger to replace the missing original one. The battery now appears fully charged.
I've also done the rebooting with Win and R keys held down, along with a couple of other variants. I wonder if the CMOS battery needs replacing too. I don't want to bin the laptop as it's always done me well in the past.

BTW I've not yet tried opening it up and cleaning the memory contacts, as I can't currently find my tools!! New house problems, I guess...
I certainly appreciate the time taken to try and help me out!

Thanks for your suggestion, Fabio, but after watching numerous videos on HP 15-P083SA deconstructing on YouTube, I finally gave up and put the laptop in the bin! So this morning my wife went out and got a new one! I'm now going through the process of setting up and personalising it! But I do appreciate your time and effort!
