My Omen has a i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.8GHz however my current speed is at 3.6GHz
I can't remeber how I overclocked my notebook or if I even set it to overclock. My main issue is that the high speed is causing high CPU temeratures (97 C) and th eoverclocking makes no difference for me when I'm gaming. It only overclocks when I'm charging my notebook. When it's not charging the speed lowers to 2.10 and I can control that speed with the advanced power options. When I'm not charging my notebook the max temperature when gaming is 75 C but normaly 65 C. I cannot reduce the speed when I'm charging my notebook and I would like to.

I found an app called ThrottleStop. This app has a feature to disable turbo boost and now my notebook runs constantly at 2.8GHz. This significantly brought down the CPU temperature to 75 C when playing CPU intensive games.
Thank you for providing the link as I found out that turbo boost was active
P.S. Turbo boost is really not necessary for playing games, there is not difference in performance when using the i7 7700HQ at turbo boost

The i7-7700HQ supports up to 3.8GHz therefore it can run at 3.66GHz when required. Its specs:

Please check Task Manager to see which task using CPU when charging.
