This is a multi question post. First is what is the actual maximum amount of RAM I can install in this motherboard. I have things telling me 16 max and others say 32 max. Second is am I able to upgrade to a 3200 MHz and if not what is the maximum I can go.

Hi:

According to the product specs, you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4 memory in a notebook with an Intel® Core™ i5-6300HQ core processor.

However, chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

You can install DDR4-3200 memory, but it will only run at 2133 MHz because that as fast as the processor can run the memory at.

If you want to see if it is possible to install 2 x 16 GB of memory in your notebook, you can run this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If the report indicates 33,xxx,xxx you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4 memory in any speed from 2133 MHz > 3200 MHz.

Thank you for the help. The command prompt does show it will go up to 32 gigs. My problem is I bought a set from crucial of 3200 MHz and when it's installed the computer will not boot or let me go into the bios to go into the xmp menu. The stock is 12 GB at 2400 MHz. Should I try sticking with a 32 GB kit in 2400 MHz?

It you bought two of these, then they should have worked.

If that is the part number you bought, since they didn't work, I guess the manual is right--max of 2 x 8 GB.

The above memory will automatically bridge to the standard DDR4-2133 MHz speed and latency.

If the memory CL was lower than 22, such as CL20 then that is probably the issue.

Thank you again for the help. Well I returned the crucial which was a CL 22 and ended up with some Corsair vengenance 32 gb at 2400mhz instead of the 3200 MHz and this worked just fine. The Corsair is also at a lower latency at a Cl16 where the stock was at cl17 for the 8gb and 4gb sticks that were factory.

I'm surprised, but glad that the faster CL16 timing DDR4-2400 memory worked.
