HP Omen 15 ax-235-nf
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi !

I own a HP OMEN 15 ax-235-nf laptop.

I would like to upgrade the laptop's RAM with a 8GB stick.

Looking for compatible RAM stick specs, I found, in the laptop maintenance manual, this spare part : part n°862397-855 - 4GB, 2400MHz, PC4-17000, 1.2v DDR4 SODIMM (information found on HP Surfpart).

Looking on the web for a 8GB RAM stick presenting the above mentioned specs, I can't find any PC4-17000 RAM stick functioning at 2400 MHz.

In addition to this, Wikipedia and some forum threads seem to imply that 2400MHz RAM sticks are necessarily PC4-19200.

FYI, I don't know what does "PC4-17000" refer to.

Is there an error in the information provided by HP Surfpart ? What type of RAM can I upgrade my laptop with ? Is a PC4-19200 stick functioning at 2400 MHz ok ?

Thanks in advance

I suggest you check your RAM type from task manager, on performance tab, memory part. There you'll find the detail you need, which is the type and the clock of your RAM.

19200 or 17000 is about the bandwith, the fastest transfer speed of your RAM can reach. So what you need is just the type (DDR4 ), and the clock (2400), and for laptop usually it use SODIMM.  I'm not expert on this, but that what i will do for your case.

Thanks for the reply !

I will do as suggested and revert.

Edit : no information as to this PC4 spec in the task manager. However it does confirm type and clock of the compatible RAM so thx for the advice !
