HP OmniBook X Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fm0000 (AK4Z3AV)

Hello,

I do not know how to best categorize this, but it's an "AI PC" so here goes.

I got this device last thursday, and I can still return it but there are a few things that seems to be not as they should.

1.\ Power adapters and USB-PD.
I have Quality TB4 cables, 100W cables known good, 140W power bank, and a 160W usb-c charger, and the included power adapter and all are giving "weak charger" from time to time, and sometimes it gets stuck and always say so.
My power bank is showing roughly 60W charging at that point... I can change to others and sometimes it says so regardless of how many times I plug it in or not.

the laptop box says 65-100W pd but it seems like it's limited to 65W PD, is this right ?

at 65W pd using the device while charging takes very long.

A fix for the annoying notifications is to remove some of the acpi fixed feature button device in device manager and reboot which I found from the internet then it's all good for a while until it returns...

2.\ this is firmware related:
I noticed some of the lenovo's and asus 258v's run around the 28W power limit, this seems to run around 18-20W on omnibook.
This wouldn't be the end of the world, but I see the cpu running very cool at all times, so if you run the fan as aggressive why not give it a few watts more, lets say 2-3 watts more ?  it's able to run at

and lower PL2 boost to 28W to make it calmer, yes it won't ever boost for 1 second to 4.8ghz anymore but so rare and so short it's almost worthless and all it seems to do is to make the fan go into turbo due to core temps.

maybe increasing hysteresis for the package temp and fan control ?

See picture below for results in a 26C room running a game for a stress test of cpu\gpu combo.

there doesn't seem to be any temperature related issues running at pl1 power limit, and indicate some room for possible increase too.

alternatively have a bios option for tdp up for a few watts not asking for the full 28W 🙂

@Ole20, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Omnibook X flip 14 (Power adapter, Fan, Power limit, gpu driver issue)!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Power Adapter and USB-PD Issues

  1. Weak Charger Notification: If your device intermittently shows a "weak charger" message, you may want to ensure that you are using the original power adapter included with the device for optimal compatibility. Check firmware updates for power management and USB-PD compliance which might address this issue.

Fan Issues

  1. Fan Noise or Performance: Excessive fan noise or fan problems can be signs of overheating or inadequate cooling. Ensure that the vents and fan are clean and unobstructed. Verify if the BIOS/UEFI firmware is current and, if necessary, reset it to default settings to potentially clear configuration issues.

Power Limit Settings

  1. Battery and Performance Settings: Adjust the Windows power settings to balance performance and battery conservation. For more control, check if specific power limit settings can be configured through either the manufacturer’s software utilities or the BIOS/UEFI firmware.

GPU Driver Issues

  1. Driver Updates: In case of GPU driver issues, it is recommended to check HP’s support website for the latest drivers. Updating the GPU driver directly from the HP Support Assistant tool or HP's official website might resolve compatibility issues. Alternatively, you can also check the GPU manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I've owned my OmniBook Ultra flip 14 for almost 3 weeks now, and it has suddenly gone dead 4 times.

I have noticed that this is preceded by a higher level of fan, but not full fan force. I suspect the antivirus is scanning my SSD and this is taxing the system in the background while I am working. It appears that this situation eventually causes the system to overheat and kills it completely.

Then when I try to start the laptop, nothing turns on except the fan -- which blows at full-throttle (something I never hear when all is running normally). The ONLY way to get the laptop to turn on after this is to unplug the power cord, press the power button once to turn the fan on full blast, then press the power button again and hold it for a FULL 20 seconds. Then release it. The laptop will boot up normally after this.

This is not nice behavior. If the system is getting hot, then it should throttle the CPU/GPU and also push the fan speed to full (which it never does in Windows). It should NOT let the system get so hot that it suddenly dies completely!

This laptop is completely up-to-date and has all the latest BIOS and device updates.
