@noone32, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue where your HP 14s-fy1003AU laptop powers off suddenly when lifted from the top left corner. This kind of behavior, especially after a few years of use, can be concerning. Let's go through some possible causes and steps to resolve it.

Possible Causes:

  1. Loose Internal Connection: Lifting the laptop might be disturbing a loose internal component, such as the battery connector or motherboard flex.
  2. Chassis Flexing: Over time, the plastic body may develop slight warping or stress points, which can affect internal components.
  3. Battery or Power Supply Issue: If the battery is aging or not seated properly, movement might interrupt power delivery.

Recommended Steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear any residual electrical charge:

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the charger and any peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger and power it on.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Check for hardware issues using HP’s built-in diagnostics:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Test and Battery Test.

Check for BIOS and Driver Updates

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause power issues:

Inspect the Laptop Physically

If you're comfortable:

  • Gently press around the top left area while the laptop is on (without lifting) to see if it triggers a shutdown.
  • If yes, it’s likely a hardware contact issue inside.

it has a bit of crack on edge on its body, that might be a problem, but I've done the software checks in past but it didn't resolve the problem, i think getting it checked at service centre is best i can do
