Hi everybody, I have an issue with my zbook power g10, i see one of the fans is not spinning properly, it spint a little bit and stops and then spin a little bit and stops... the fan looks brand new... same as the other one...so i don't think the fan itself is the issue... Even i ran a performance test and the heat gets very high but still not spinning well.

Hi @walidthabet

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. If one fan on your HP ZBook Power G10 only starts briefly, stops, and then repeats while temperatures continue to rise during a performance test, that can indicate that the affected fan is not responding correctly to thermal demands. I appreciate that you have already observed the fan behavior and run a performance test, which is helpful information.

Since the fan appears physically clean and in good condition, let's focus on diagnostics and firmware-related checks.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Fan Test

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
  • Select Component Tests > Fan.
  • Run the fan test and note whether the affected fan passes or reports an error.

Check BIOS Settings and Version

  • Restart the system and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Load BIOS Defaults, save, and restart.
  • Return to BIOS and verify that no thermal or fan-related settings are disabled.
  • Confirm the BIOS is at the latest version available for your exact ZBook Power G10 model.

Perform a Hardware Reset

  • Shut down the workstation.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and start the system.
  • Check whether fan operation changes once Windows loads.

Monitor Fan Behavior Under Load

  • Connect the AC adapter.
  • Set Windows Power Mode to Best Performance.
  • Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics performance or stress-related test again.
  • Observe whether the second fan starts consistently as temperatures increase.

Check HP Hardware Diagnostics Logs

  • Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics in Windows.
  • Review any thermal, cooling, or fan-related test results.
  • A fan may still appear new physically while its motor, sensor feedback, or fan control circuit is not operating correctly.

Inspect for BIOS-Level Behavior

  • If the fan shows the same intermittent spin behavior even while inside HP UEFI diagnostics or BIOS, that points more toward a hardware-level cooling control issue rather than a Windows software issue.

Update Essential HP Components

  • Install the latest HP BIOS.
  • Install the latest HP chipset drivers.
  • Install the latest Intel or AMD thermal management drivers specific to your ZBook Power G10 configuration.
  • Restart and retest afterwards.

For better guidance, could you confirm:

  • Does the fan fail the HP Fan Test in UEFI Diagnostics?
  • Is the intermittent fan the left fan or the right fan when viewing the keyboard from above?
  • Did this behavior begin after a BIOS update, hardware service, or cleaning?

Take care, and have an amazing day!
