Hi @visitjn

Welcome to the HP support community.

If one of the RAM slots in your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop isn't detecting RAM, here are some troubleshooting steps and solutions before considering motherboard replacement:

Troubleshooting Steps

Reseat the RAM: Power off your laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if removable). Open the back panel and carefully reseat the RAM module in the non-detecting slot. Sometimes, a poor connection can cause detection issues.

Test with Different RAM: If possible, test the slot with a different RAM module. This will help determine if the issue is with the slot or the original RAM.

Check for Dust/Debris: Inspect the RAM slot for any dust or debris that might be interfering with the connection. Clean it gently if necessary.

BIOS Settings: Check if there are any settings in the BIOS that might affect RAM detection. You can access the BIOS by pressing Esc or F10 during boot.

Update BIOS: If you haven’t already, check for any BIOS updates from HP’s support website. An update can sometimes fix hardware detection issues.

If All Else Fails

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may indicate a hardware problem with the RAM slot itself. Before opting for a motherboard replacement, consider:

  • External RAM Options: Depending on your needs, you might be able to use an external USB memory solution or upgrade to a higher-capacity single RAM stick in the functioning slot.
