Ongoing Windows 11 Compatibility Issues on HP Omen 15‑ce198wm (Windows 11 Pro 25H2)

I’m currently running Windows 11 Pro 25H2 on an HP Omen 15‑ce198wm (Intel 8th‑gen + NVIDIA GTX), and I want to document several persistent issues that remain unresolved due to firmware and driver limitations on this model.

These problems occur on a clean install and continue across all current Windows 11 updates.

1. Intel Management Engine Not Fully Functional

  • MEI driver installs but does not initialize correctly

  • Repeated ME‑related warnings in Event Viewer

  • Missing or incomplete power‑management functions

The ME firmware bundled with the last BIOS release appears too outdated for Windows 11.

2. Integrated Intel GPU Not Detected

  • Intel UHD Graphics does not appear in Device Manager

  • Only the NVIDIA GPU is exposed to the OS

  • No hybrid graphics, no QuickSync, higher idle power draw

There are no BIOS options to enable or configure the iGPU.

3. Screen Dims Automatically When Windows Loads

  • Brightness drops significantly as soon as Windows 11 finishes booting

  • Brightness level does not persist across restarts

  • No BIOS or driver setting prevents this behavior

This only happens once Windows loads, not in BIOS.

4. Extremely Limited BIOS Options

The BIOS on this model provides no modern configuration controls:

  • No graphics settings

  • No Intel ME settings

  • No power‑management options

  • No thermal or fan adjustments

  • No Windows‑11‑related compatibility settings

This prevents correcting any of the issues above.

5. HP‑Hosted Drivers Will Not Install on Windows 11

None of the drivers on the HP support page for the Omen 15‑ce series will run on Windows 11. Most installers fail due to OS‑version checks or missing firmware support.

This forces Windows 11 to rely entirely on generic Microsoft drivers, which contributes to the ME issues, missing iGPU, and brightness problems.

Request to HP

Please consider releasing a Windows‑11‑compatible BIOS/UEFI update for the Omen 15‑ce series. Even a minimal update that modernizes Intel ME firmware, exposes the integrated GPU properly, and resolves the brightness‑dimming behavior would make this hardware fully usable on a supported operating system.

Many of us still rely on these systems, and a firmware update would keep this model functional and secure on Windows 11.

By the way, thank you, Hawk Eye, for catching my last issue. I was convinced it was the gaming hub, but it turned out to be a bad monitor. The timing was so strange—it failed right when I was working on other things, which made it feel like I’d caused the problem myself.

Hi @Spire81,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Could you confirm the current BIOS version installed on your system?
  • Have you tried installing Intel MEI or chipset drivers directly from Intel’s support website, rather than HP’s page?
  • When the brightness issue occurs, does adjusting it manually restore the correct level, or does it remain locked?
  • Have you noticed if these issues persist when running the system in Safe Mode, or only during normal startup?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize things until a firmware update is available:

  • Intel Drivers: Try downloading the latest Intel Chipset, MEI, and Graphics drivers directly from Intel’s official website. Sometimes these bypass HP’s OS‑version checks.
  • NVIDIA Drivers: Ensure you’re using the latest NVIDIA GeForce drivers from NVIDIA’s site, not Windows Update.
  • Power Settings: In Windows, disable adaptive brightness under Settings → System → Display → Brightness & color. Also check advanced power settings in Control Panel to ensure display dimming isn’t enabled.
  • BIOS Reset: Perform a BIOS reset to defaults, in case hidden settings are misconfigured.
  • HP Support Assistant: Even if HP’s driver installers fail, running HP Support Assistant may detect and apply updates differently

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to install all the latest drivers. However, the BIOS no longer seems to expose the Intel integrated graphics, and only the NVIDIA GPU is available. I’d like to have the ability to switch between them again.

The screen dimming still occurs right when Windows loads my account at the sign‑in screen. I’m not sure whether that’s related to the missing Intel GPU, but it’s definitely an annoyance.

I believe I’m already on the most recent MEI and BIOS versions—see the attached images. Any guidance on restoring the Intel graphics option in BIOS would be appreciated.

as a continuation to my last statement. Many of the drivers wouldn’t load, including in videos and Intel management system because HP uses a hardware ID that’s not recognized by the default drivers. ended up using snappy driver installer in order to get the drivers and then I was able to update within Nvidia, app but it shouldn’t have been that hard. It shouldn’t have had to use a third-party to get the drivers because when I tried direct from Nvidia or direct from the Intel, the drivers didn’t work

Google Drive zip file of exported drivers This is the list of all the drivers and the versions installed on my laptop I used this commang to get

"$BackupDrv = Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination "D:\DriverBackup"
$BackupDrv | Select-Object ClassName, ProviderName, Date, Version |
Export-Csv "D:\DriverBackup\driver_list.csv" -NoTypeInformation -Encoding UTF8"

Then printed to a pdf finally turning it to a image so you could see.

I also exported all the drivers that are currently on mine if anyone needs it

Hi @Spire81,

Thanks for your response.

I completely understand you’ve clearly put in a lot of effort already to get your HP Omen 15‑ce198wm running smoothly on Windows 11 Pro 23H2. Thank you for sharing the detailed steps you took with driver exports and updates; that kind of thoroughness really helps us see the full picture.

From what you describe, there are two main issues:

  1. The Intel integrated graphics no longer appearing in BIOS.
  2. The screen dimming behavior at the sign‑in screen.

Why the Intel GPU may not be showing

On some Omen models, the BIOS is designed to automatically disable the Intel GPU when NVIDIA Optimus isn’t supported or when the system defaults to discrete graphics only. A BIOS update can sometimes change how devices are exposed, which may explain why you no longer see the Intel option.

Here are a few things you can try to restore functionality or reduce the annoyance:

  • Check BIOS settings carefully:
    • Restart and enter BIOS (usually by pressing F10 at startup).
    • Look under Advanced or Device Configuration for options related to “Hybrid Graphics” or “Switchable Graphics.” If available, enable it.
  • Perform a CMOS reset:
    • Power off, unplug, and hold the power button for ~15 seconds.
    • If accessible, remove the CMOS battery briefly and reseat it. This can sometimes restore hidden BIOS options.
  • Reinstall Intel drivers manually:
    • Even if the GPU doesn’t appear in BIOS, try installing the Intel UHD Graphics driver package from HP’s support website for your exact model. If the hardware is still present, Windows Device Manager may detect it after installation.
  • Check Windows power and display settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings and confirm which GPU is driving the panel.
    • In Power Options, disable adaptive brightness if it’s enabled it can cause dimming at login.
  • HP Support Assistant:
    • Run HP Support Assistant to ensure all firmware, chipset, and MEI updates are correctly applied. Sometimes the Intel Management Engine update is required before graphics switching works properly.

I hope this helps.

Hi Deep_World,

Thank you for the follow-up. I need to clarify a few things regarding my system state and the timeline of these issues, as they have been quite complex:

1. OS Version & Trigger: I am currently running Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (not 23H2).

Both the "disappearing iGPU" and the "startup dimming" issues began immediately upon the initial upgrade to Windows 11.

2. Hardware vs. Firmware: To clarify my previous comments, my internal screen did physically fail (eDP cable/panel) during the middle of my initial troubleshooting. I have since replaced both, and the physical glitching has stopped. However, the dimming issue persists. It occurs only when Windows loads—never in the BIOS or during the initial splash screen—which leads me to believe it is a hand-off issue between the firmware and the OS.

3. The Missing iGPU: The Intel iGPU is completely absent from Device Manager (it does not even appear as an unknown device). This confirms the OS is not receiving the hardware ID from the BIOS. Because the BIOS (Version F17) is so restricted, there are no "Advanced" or "Device Configuration" menus available to toggle "Hybrid" or "Switchable" graphics back on.

4. The Intel Management Engine (ME) Theory: I suspect the dimming and iGPU issues are tied to the fact that the Intel ME firmware bundled with the F17 BIOS is not fully compatible with Windows 11. This prevents the OS from correctly managing power states and hardware allocation.

My Request: Since I rely on the iGPU for video encoding, I need a way to restore hardware visibility. Is there a Beta BIOS or a newer internal firmware revision that provides full Windows 11 compatibility for the Omen 15-ce series? I am willing to test a non-public release if it restores the iGPU functionality and corrects the power-management/dimming behavior.
