HP Pavilion 15-ec0001nq
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I just got a brand new laptop called HP Pavilion 15-ec0001nq in which I noticed a small issue. Even though the vendor says it has 8GB RAM, in system's properties I see 8.00 GB (5.92 usable). On previous laptop I did not have such thing. I encountered issues while running an average game and trying to open a Chrome window at the same time and it wouldn't open. I checked the usage of RAM and then I figured it doesn't use all of it.

How can I fix this?

Thank you in advance!

Hi:

I don't think you can.

Yes, 2 GB out of the usable amount is pretty high, but no doubt most of that 2 GB went to support the graphics memory.

There is only one thing you can check to see if you can change the amount of usable system memory, and that is this...

Run the msconfig utility.

Click on the Boot tab.

Click on the Advanced Options button

If the Maximum Memory box is checked, uncheck it.

Close the utility and restart the PC.

If that box is not checked, you may want to consider adding more physical memory.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

It can support up to 2 x 16 GB of memory for a total of 32 GB.

The manual states 32 GB is the max, but then leaves the 2 x 16 GB configuration off the list.
